Puerto Rico 
Drawn
by J. Burton Gold and opened in 1991, it is the only golf course
18 holes of the region of San Juan which is open to the public.
It was created with a big respect for the surrounding vegetation,
the numerous palm trees and the young trees, to give to the golf
course a maturity which it still does not have, because of its
youth. Golfers can perceive numerous animals, such as: iguanas,
hawks, moorhens, colored fishes swimming in the crystalline waters
of the lakes. The golf course offers magnificent points of view
on the neighbouring forest El Yunque and on the lakes. The water
is moreover very present, on 13 holes. Holes are varied, there
are not two similar. The three last ones follow one of the most
beautiful beaches of Puerto Rico. The club offers at disposal
a driving range, a pro shop which proposes the rent of equipment
of the last models Calaway and shoes Foot-Joy. Llessons are proposed
by the team of instructors PGA.
Situated
at the South of Puerto Rico, this international golf course 18
holes was drawn by Ferdinand Garbin, famous architect who comes
from the legendary Donald Ross school. Being a part of the residential
group of villas and luxury hotels in front of a panoramic sight
on the mountains and the magnificent country surrounding, it is
also the only golf course to possess a quality of green guaranteed
USGA, insuring so an optimal drainage and excellent conditions
of putting, and a Jackpot Bermuda grass on the greens and on the
fairways. At disposal: Pro shop, driving range, putting green,
chipping area, golf lessons proposed by a pro.
The
golf:
The
Resort is divided into 5 villages, representing a world in itself.
Every village proposes luxurious independent villas possessing
their own swimming pool, and private butler. The architecture
is a mixture of Moorish and Spanish colonial style. As the center
of the Resort, the big hotel rises above the property, in front
of a magnificent panoramic sight. Rooms are spacious and luxurious,
fitted out each with a lounge place possessing CD and VCR reader
and with a bathroom of up-market . 
Numerous activities are proposed: swimming pool, water sports,
diving, fishing, equitation, excursions, spa, fitness center,
casino and naturally the golf.
Drawn
by Bruce A. Besse Jr, it opened in 2003. This magnificent golf
course 27 holes Par-72 is the only one of Puerto Rico to possess
an "Island Green". It offers magnificent points of view
on the Caribbean Sea and on the mountains. The clubhouse, which
will open on spring, 2004, will propose a set of quality services,
whether it is to rent equipment, savor a sophisticated dinner
or relax one moment by the sea.
The
North coast of the island is considered for its golfs. The most
known golfic Resort is the Hyatt Dorado Beach Resort & Country
Club, considered as a real paradise for golfers. Spacious and
private, the resort is also known for its tennis courts, its luxuriant
gardens and its romantic atmosphere. Built in 1950, it was for
a while the exclusive destination for presidents of the country
and the elite of Hollywood. It offers at disposal 262 luxurious
rooms, including 17 small independent houses and a suite in front
of an open view on the sea.
The
Resort possesses two international golf courses close from each
other, drawn by Robert Trent Jones: East course and the
West course. These two original golf courses were cut
in the jungle and offer narrow fairways surrounded by trees and
forests and including numerous holes at the ocean border, in front
of magnificent panoramic sights. The main point of the golf course
is its 13th hole which was classified by jack Nicklaus as one
of the 10th better holes of the world. The West course is slightly
shorter and twists between lakes and lagoons, also offering remarkable
points of view.
Created
by the professional player and champion Juan Chi Chi Rodriguez,
this magnificent golf course was conceived to become the place
of international tournaments, being able to welcome events such
as the prestigious PGA Tour. It is decorated with majestic water
fountains and waterfalls, impressive lakes, magnificent small
creeks and colored gardens, real perfect decoration to transport
players right to 'Paradise'. A clubhouse five stars completes
this first class golf course. It was specially conceived to answer
all the players needs. Visitors can take advantage of the five
star restaurant, of a comfortable lounge where members of the
club can meet themselves, a bar and outside a terrace looking
onto holes N°9, 18 and tees of holes 1 and 10. A pro shop
is at disposal provided with the latest articles and equipment,
a driving range, 3 greens of practice and a putting area.
Drawn
by Gary Player and conceived in 1973, this magnificent international
golf course 18 holes is one of the best of the island. Whereas
the first 9 holes are lined with the hotels, the 9 last ones possess
a different character and are on the opened space of a plantation
farmer. The arrangement consists of landscapes and wave-like fairways.
The water comes into play on 8 holes. Combined with the presence
of the tropical vegetation, lagoons and sand traps, this golf
course is made for the challenge. It requires moreover a judiciously
use of all the clubs.
Drawn
by Rees Jones, it opened in 1998. The fairways are wide, far from
the holes and more narrow when they get closer. Water traps are
present, under the shape of ponds. The arrangement is known for
its deep bunkers and its high greens. Winds usually blow from
est to west, what means that they come right from the ocean. And
as they tend to strengthen in the afternoon, it is necessary to
know well how to choose its clubs. The golf course contains few
hills, most are only used to heighten tees. Only one hole is played
on a high green.
The
Candelero hotel offers at disposal one hundred spacious rooms
as well as one hundred villas possessing 1, 2 or 3 rooms. Every
villa offers a magnificent sight on the colored gardens or on
the sea.
Built
in 1840 for the golfers of the US Air Force who was present on
the base of Ramey, this golf course 18 holes semi-flat offers
points of view on the sea to cut your breath away. It was played
by very known generals, such as Dwight D. Eisenhower. Today it
is opened to the public. Its straight and opened fairways are
very well maintained and benefit from the refreshing brisk coming
from the sea. Although there are not lakes because of the height,
the golf course contains numerous sand traps and a powerful East
wind which brings a permanent challenge.
Nested
in the heart of a luxuriant vegetation, this Resort was created
to impress and offer a place of paradise. In front of a magnificent
sight on the ocean and the mountains, it offers 600 rooms and
strikingly fitted out suites with all the confort that one could
dream of. Considered also as a remarkable golf destination, it
offers at disposal two golf courses.
Drawn
by Greg Norman, it takes place along the Mameyes river, offering
as paintings decorating the course of points of view to cut the
breath out on the mountains and on the sea. The architect protected
the rising vegetation and let the natural ability of the ground
determine the place of every hole. With wide fairways, opened
greens, shallow bunkers, the golf course is ideal for any level
players.
Based
in 1847, it is the only hotel to possess a swimming pool of thermal
water containing therapeutic properties. The company of tourism
of Porto Rico cooperated in the restoration of the hotel, so that
it could find its original beauty. It proposes 48 equipped rooms
each with air-conditioning and a balcony. It has a magnificent
swimming pool and a tennis court.
