SCOTLAND: Highlands
Although reports giving evidence that a club
would have been based in the city of Nairn back in 1875, it
is generally recognized that the Club was based following gentlemen's
meeting interested in golf in 1887. Established on Moray Firth's
coast, in the Scotland Highlands, Nairn gives one of the best
representation of the Scottish links. It welcomed a big number
of major events, as well amateurs as professionals, including
British Amateur Championship. But Nairn is especially considered
for having welcomed the Walter Cup of 1999, tournaments in which
Great Britain and Ireland gained a rare victory on the American
opponent. The fact that Nairn was chosen as quest for these
prestigious events is revealing as for the quality of the course.
The Walter Cup is not played only on the best courses.
The course offers all the natural · hazards ·
for which one can not wait. The configuration is such that course
becomes more and more difficult as we evolve in it.

This course, which dates 1877,
was drawn by Tom Morris, John Sutherland and Donald Ross.
As good as can be Brora courses, Nairn or, · the jewel
crown · in the Highlands is definitively Royal Dornoch
Golf Club. Universally classified as being a part of 20 better
courses in the world, Royal Dornoch is unique among the big Scotland
links to have never welcomed the British Open. It is not bound
to the course quality which is not to be questioned, but simply
because Dornoch is in a distant region. However far he can be,
this links remains inescapable during a stay in the Scotland.
