Drawn
by the Portuguese architect Jorge Santana da Silva, the golf
course is a part of a zone in development. It is situated in
Quinta da Devesa in an exceptional environment, with on one
side the cities of Amarante and Marco de Canaveses, and on the
other side the mountains of Marão and Aboboreira, without
forgetting the waterfalls which decorates the course. It takes
place on a 5085 meter length, in Par-68, and asks from the beginning
precision because of its narrow design, its greens well protected
by bunkers and lakes which represent a major element on 4 holes.
Although it is hilly, situated at 600 meters above the sea level,
it is not a too difficult golf course because the architect
knew how to limit the reliefs variations. 
Located
in Rio Alto, on a magnificent ground at the sea border, Estela
is a real Links. It has the chance to benefit from an ideal climate,
indeed contrary to the South of the country, here in full summer
the temperature rarely exceeds 25°C. Stretching on a total
length of 6300 meters, it is directed to good hitters. Besides
that it possesses narrow fairways and greens renowned for their
exceptional speed. The golf course contains few bunkers at the
level of its fairways, having said this it does not really need
it as far as sand dunes really play the role of obstacle. On the
other hand, 400.000 shrubs were planted, mainly fig trees, willows
and oleanders. The club offers a complete range of services.
Created
in 1932 and drawn by Frank Gordon and Arthur Mariani, the 9 holes
of Miramar is one of the oldest and of the most traditional golf
course of the country. Most of its departures are situated on
the heights of sand dunes, in front of magnificent points of view
on the ocean. The beauty of the site with its panoramic sights
on the sea and the beaches accompany moreover the player all along
the golf course. Among the game difficulties we find the hole
N 2 which is 204 metres in Par-3 on 2 levels and the hole N 9
which presents a very difficult Par-4 with a out zone on the right-hand
side of the fairways and a forest on the left. And to crown the
whole, this last green is very well kept by 2 bunkers. The club
offers at disposal a nice club house with full services among
which a swimming pool.
Situated
at 10 minutes from Viseu in the middle of a magnificent hilly
environment, Montebelo is considered as a mountain golf course.
It was drawn by Mark Stilwell and Malcom Kenyon who are not considered
as being a part of the best golf architects but who realized here
a good work. Although it evokes the golf course of Crans-sur-Sierre
in Switzerland whose main difficulty resides in hillsides and
sometimes stiff topography, however Montebelo remains feasible
by foot. The water comes into play on some holes and on certain
shots, missing visibility, it adds to the challenge of the game.
Although they are visible, it is necessary to be carefull of greens
and to prepare if possible a strategy during previous rounds.
Created
in 1890 by importers of Scottish and English wine, the Oporto
club is the oldest of the Iberic peninsula and the 4th of continental
Europe. Situated at only 17 km at the South of the city, it is
easily reachable. The club is however private, but guests are
accepted with a handicap certificate. Relatively short with regard
to the current standard lengths, the golf course possesses narrow
fairways. Holes which are the richest in challenge are the N 4
and n°11. When to the last one, it is a Par-5 which takes
place on 494 meters. The club offers at disposal a driving range,
putting green, trolleys, caddies, rent of clubs and pro-shop.
Located
in Ponte de Lima, on the heights of Madalena's hills, this golf
course which was drawn by Daniel and David Silva is a typical
mountain golf course. The first 9 holes take place among hundred-years-old
trees (sweet chestnut trees, corks, oaks), following a ravine
which leads to Quinta da Anquião and above of whom holes
offer magnificent points of view on the Lima's valley. The hole
N 3 is the longest of the country, also one of the longest in
Europe. The following 9 holes twist in the Quinta de Pias's valley,
in the middle of vineyards, pear trees, apple trees and corn fields.
The club offers at disposal its training area, pro shop, restaurant,
bar, sauna.
In 1997, 9 holes were created to satisfy the guests of a residential
tourist complex. The Portuguese architect Jorge Santana Da Silva
completed them afterwards in order to reach a 18 holes. Situated
on the banks of the Cávado river, at the South of the coastal
city of Esposende, it is really a golf course to discover. Created
in a harmonious way, it possesses well drawn greens, several water
obstacles and holes which twist between rows of pines and bunkers.
If it does not necessarily suit to a wide public of golfers, it
will however please players who like a game with length and precision
in a pleasant frame. The club offers a complete range of services.
